New and improved content!
Posted by julia on 19 Feb 2009 | Tagged as: New and Fixed
Today we released a few VERY exciting things in the wonderful world of Livemocha content:
- Romaji for Japanese lessons! We know it’s tough to learn the Japanese kanji right off the bat, so we’ve add the option to see your Japanese lessons in Romaji (roman letters) so that you can better understand what’s going on (and have an easier time with your magnet and speaking exercises). Check out your Japanese lessons for the new romanji/kanji button right above the “translate” button.
- Korean courses! We now have ALL Livemocha courses available in Korean, so for those of you looking to learn Korean, today is your day. This should also be helpful to our Korean members looking to learn other languages as you will now be able to see all lessons translated directly into Korean.
- Tons and tons of content fixes! We know (tragically) that we’re not perfect, but we’re certainly doing our best to get there. We’ve fixed a number of the problems you guys have reported with various lessons and are well on our way to reaching ultimate lesson perfection….or at least to making sure all content is in tip top shape!
Also, in case you’re wondering about what content improvements we’re working on next, here’s a little glimpse into the future:
- PinYin and Romaji options for Japanese and Chinese speaking exercises (and speaking and writing exercises for ALL Chinese and Japanese courses)
- Premium Grammar Guides! Livemocha will be adding much-requested grammar content starting in March, as part of our upcoming premium courses. And they DO look pretty awesome…if I say so myself…
- A continuing stream of content fixes, based on your feedback.

Hi guys,
that sounds like a big deal to me. Not only have you reached 2.000.000 members but adding a grammar guide soon is really, really cool!
Looking forward to the next improvements.
Greetings from France,
Kirsten

The grammar guide sounds great. I’m only slightly disappointed it’ll only be for premium accounts, but that’s to be expected I suppose.
Can you guys find a way to keep people from posting tips in other languages in the “Tips in English” box?

Today is my first day on Livemocha, which I stumbled upon by pure accident, and the more I see of this site, the more I see how great this social network platform can be. I thought the last thing this world needed was another social network, but alas, this truly is fresh and inspiring. Bringing the world a little closer together is what it’s really all about. A step forward for humanity!

Great to hear about the continued improvement and growth of LiveMocha!
I agree with Christopher’s comment about the Featured Tips box. I have just blogged about this.

“PinYin and Romaji options for Japanese and Chinese speaking exercises (and speaking and writing exercises for ALL Chinese and Japanese courses)” – Thank god, I’ve gotten up to the first speaking exercise on Chinese 101 and freaked
“Korean courses! We now have ALL Livemocha courses available in Korean, so for those of you looking to learn Korean, today is your day.” – This is awesome. I’ve never quite got the hang of basic Korean, hopefully now I can take on a new hurdle
Cheers Livemocha for all your work in the language community!

Hi. I’ve tried the Korean courses it’s great but it still lacks the writing and speaking exercises. When do you plan on adding it? Hope it will be soon.
Good luck and more power. ^^

I’m really glad that there are finally Korean courses! I’ve already started. However, I’m not really happy that the grammar guides will only be for premium users. Learning a new language is easier with grammar explanations, and I would rather have it so that everybody could get a look at it.

Glad to hear that grammar guides are on the way.
I still like the idea of an “expert” teacher video-style giving grammar hints and helps in 2 to 3 minute video sessions. (like on Spanishdict.com)
I would like to see samples of the grammar guide or video lessons before purchasing.
Perhaps, the first three or four lessons could be free to introduce them to LiveMocha members.
I love the social network connnection provided by LiveMocha and being able to talk to people from around the world. This is LiveMocha’s strongest feature. The flashcard feature is fantastic, too. Unfortunately, I have been unable to take the quizzes lately (tech problems?)
Weakest feature…the English to Spanish Lessons that require putting sentences (drag and paste words) together. Some of the Spanish to English translations do not sound right and some use improper grammar. (in English) Hopefully, these lessons ca”n be revised and made better. These “sentence forming lessons would be much better if they were shorter. Easier on the brain to learn foreign language sentence structures in very short bursts.
Love LiveMocha! Looking forward to all of the forthcoming improvements.
